OS X Lion Upgrade – Skipping / Jumping Characters in Nano via SSH

As I mentioned previously, I spend a fair bit of time on the command line in OSX, usually SSH’d to another machine. I found it rather irksome that, after the upgrade to OSX 10.7 (Lion), as I moved around and deleted text in nano while SSH’d to a Linux box, the text would skip and not show the right output. Did some quick googling and found this page, which has the solution. If that fixes your issue, let them know by dropping them a comment!

OS X Lion Upgrade – Slow Terminal Login

I recently upgraded my work laptop to OSX 10.7 (Lion) and I found that suddenly my Terminal.app was extremely slow to run each instance of /usr/bin/login. Painfully slow if you do any amount of work on the command-line. It didn’t matter if it was opening the app the first time, or just a new tab within an existing window.

No Java Runtime by Default in OSX Lion

I upgraded my work mack to OSX 10.7 Lion today, and, to my surprise, there was no Java runtime installed. When I went to launch the .jnlp from our KVM device, it alerted me that there wasn’t one installed and, if I wanted, it would find and download one for me.

nVidia GeForce GTX560 under Linux

The occasional in-Windows gamer, I like to enjoy the full resolution on my monitor as well as the crisp graphics that come with such a high-class card. However, Nouveau does not support this card as of yet. So, that means no hardware acceleration under Fedora 15 for me. So, killing a small piece of me, I installed the proprietary driver from RPMFusion’s repos. Here’s the difference in framerates.
