Pulseaudio Microphone Loopback (Listen While Recording)

I got a new headset today that features two 3.5mm audio jacks: one for the headphones, the other for included boom microphone. However, when plugging in said device and using it with the headphones on, I find it rather difficult to use VoIP applications (like Teamspeak) when I can’t hear my own voice. What’s needed is a microphone loopback, so I can hear myself through the headphones while I’m talking. Here’s how.

No Timezone Redirection for Non-Windows RDP Clients?

As I previously mentioned, we’re rolling out some Fedora-based thinclient-like devices in our warehouse that boot up, connect to wireless, and then immediately start a full-screen FreeRDP session to our 2003 R2 terminal server, which is situated on the GMT timezone, with the “Allow timezone redirection” Group Policy option set. We run an (Windows-based) application on there that is central to the manufacturing process, that also relies on access to correct timestamp information, which is must pull for multiple timezones based on the host client that is connecting. OS X Lion Upgrade – Skipping / Jumping Characters in Nano via SSH

As I mentioned previously, I spend a fair bit of time on the command line in OSX, usually SSH’d to another machine. I found it rather irksome that, after the upgrade to OSX 10.7 (Lion), as I moved around and deleted text in nano while SSH’d to a Linux box, the text would skip and not show the right output. Did some quick googling and found this page, which has the solution. If that fixes your issue, let them know by dropping them a comment!

OS X Lion Upgrade – Slow Terminal Login

I recently upgraded my work laptop to OSX 10.7 (Lion) and I found that suddenly my Terminal.app was extremely slow to run each instance of /usr/bin/login. Painfully slow if you do any amount of work on the command-line. It didn’t matter if it was opening the app the first time, or just a new tab within an existing window.

Realtek RTL8191SEvA Wireless in Fedora

We’re rolling out a bunch of Fedora-based thinclient-like devices at work that contain a RTL8191SEvA chipset. Unfortunately, this isn’t built into the kernel as of 2.6.38.8-32.fc15 (I think there are licensing issues at play), so it has to be compiled and inserted by hand.
